Talking Yoga and Style with Torri Winstead Part II
Q: What are some essentials in your closet you believe every girl should have?
A: Boyfriend Jeans – I can’t live without my Rag and Bone “The Dre” boyfriends. They are the definition of effortlessly sexy (and my hubbys favorite item in my closet). Throw them on with your favorite tee and sandals or dress them up with heels and a slinky tank and you are sure to turn heads!
Gladiator sandals – my fave pair are the Sparta by Stuart Weitzman because they are comfy and super stylish. I have tiny calves and these sandals are lace up so they are adjustable and fit my chicken legs perfectly:) Gladiator sandals add the perfect dose of edge to any outfit…. Boho Chic coming right up!LBD, LBD LBD! You can’t go wrong with a little black dress! My current favorite is a lace dress by Nightcap. It’s the perfect balance of flirty with sheer cutouts that show a peek of skin, and simple, with a high neck and fitted silhouette. Accessorize with a pop of color if you are feeling frisky!
Sky High Sexy Time Heels – Every fashionista needs a pair of heels that make you feel like a rockstar. I <3 my Valentino rockstud heels because you can wear them dressy or casual and voila- instant glamour!
What is your favorite splurge item and why?
A: AHHHH – this one is a tie! I adore my black Chanel wallet on a chain and also covet my Hermes Collier de Chien cuffs. The wallet on a chain is so versatile and the straps are adjustable allowing you to wear it three different ways. Double the chains to wear on the shoulder, cross body with full length chain or tuck the chains inside for a chic clutch and you are ready for a night out on the town! My Hermes cuffs are my go to accessory. I have them in black and white and they instantly spruce up any outfit–from jean shorts to date night dresses you can’t miss if you are rocking a CDC cuff!
Q: Do you have certain shops or online shops that are your go to when shopping? Locally I love Beanie + Cecil in Lumina Station. Beanie carries some of my favorite brands including Rag and Bone, ATM (I can’t live without their perfect fitting tees), Isabel Marant and Helmut Lang. The knowledgeable staff is friendly and helpful. You will be sure to find the perfect outfit for any occasion!
A: Online I am a huge fan of www.revolve.com. because they have excellent customer service and a broad range of price points. I love to mix splurges and steals. My rule of thumb – if it’s super trendy don’t splurge. Save your splurges for timeless pieces that you know you will wear for years to come! Intermix is another one of my faves which specializes in trendy, unique, fashion forward pieces. If your outfit came from this leader in women’s fashion you will definitely turn heads!
Q: Do you have a wildcard piece in your closet? What is it?
A: My wildcard piece this season is my Frame Denim shredded jeans. Don’t get me wrong I LOVE distressed and destroyed denim but these are seriously shredded (like straight out of a Freddy Krueger movie) which is a little outside of the box for me. I have rocked them a couple times with my hair in a messy ponytail or bun, a cropped oversized tee, and layers of jewels. The last time I wore them I switched it up a bit and paired them with a dressy silk top and red closed toe Prada heels and I felt pretty incredible! After all, going outside of your comfort zone and trying new things is what fashion is all about!
Q:When it comes to your home do you have any recommendations on places to shop or where to get inspiration?
A: When it comes to home decor I am drawn to contemporary statement pieces that are comfortable and practical. I love mixing different textures and incorporating a pop of color to add interest (in my case blue because it’s my favorite color)! I am a big fan of unique lighting fixtures. Large, statement lighting can totally transform a space from drab to fab!
Locally I love Blue Hand Home – they have the perfect balance of modern/beachy home decor. Another favorite is Restoration Hardware for their clean lines, simplistic and stylish designs, and overall quality. For home decor inspiration I love getting ideas from www.houzz.com.
Q: Being the perfect balance of yoga girl and fashionista, what advice would you give someone wanting to live a healthy lifestyle ie diet, workout routine, etc?
A: Yoga and fashion are both powerful ways to express yourself. Yoga is not a part time gig – when I began practicing yoga, it became a lifestyle choice that extended from my mat to the rest of my life. The best advice I can give for a healthy diet and workout routine would be to listen to your body, make mindful food choices, do what makes you feel good and try new things! I move my body for at least 1 hour every day, drink lots of water, and eat reasonable proportions.
Yoga resonates with me because it is all encompassing, it is not just a workout; it is a meaningful and spiritual way of living. Yes, you can lose weight practicing yoga but you can also boost immunity, reduce stress, detoxify the body, increase energy, lower cholesterol, alleviate back pain and reduce your risk for heart disease. Yoga is not about touching your toes, its about what you learn on the way down. <3
