NYFW From a Newbie

nyfw1nyfw9 nyfw11It’s finally here, the week I’ve dreamed of from a far for years now. But this year I’m living in the city where it’s all happening and I’m attending the events and a show. I’ve had my outfit bought and picked out before I was even given an invite. My first fashion week show was Mara Hoffman Spring/Summer 2016. I have always loved Mara’s designs so I knew with her whimsical style it was going to be a very creative display. I arrive early to the Skylight at Clarkson Square where I am greeted by about a dozen photographers. Suddenly they all start snapping pictures so naturally I look behind me for what celeb must be walking down the street just to realize they are taking my picture of what I’m wearing. I’m sure my confused face will be great for the street style section! I stand waiting with other ladies who also are wearing heels that are killing their feet as we all try and get out of the wind that is blowing our perfectly piled hair a little too much for comfort. Finally after what seemed like hours (It probably was) they start admitting us. We enter into a lobby where there is a little bar serving tea, coffee, or water. There is also a wall filled with fashion publications of all sorts all dedicated to NYFW. I walk into the room where the show will take place, there are white benches staggered throughout the room for seating and a backdrop on the runway that pictures blue skies and wheat fields.Processed with VSCOcam with j1 presetProcessed with VSCOcam with a7 presetProcessed with VSCOcam with a7 presetProcessed with VSCOcam with a8 presetThe show starts forty minutes late but that I’ve found is normal in the fashion industry. Beautiful models start walking out all sporting a fabric bandana which matches each unusable with two of the longest braids I’ve ever seen falling on each side of their faces. The collection was a twist on the classic Mara Hoffman style. The collection included stars, stripes, pastels, cowboy hats, and blue skies. Instead of patterns that were full of bright colors and things you’d only see in your imagination, these shapes and patterns were familiar and all american. Each look was accompanied by Willie Nelson songs on repeat. Don’t worry, if you didn’t get your dose of overalls they are set to return next season but this time in a pastel pink with thin stripes. Plunging necklines and flowy maxi dresses with low backs will also be making their return. All in all the collection was so beautiful and I am obsessed with the all american theme with a hint of 70’s shapes. Though a change for Mara’s known esthetic, the bohemian look was seen throughout keeping to her style. As amazing as the week has been with all the fashion week events, I can’t wait to catch up on some Z’s!

Have a great week my loves! XO, Lish

Remembering Oscar

IMG_0795Last night was the Oscar de la Renta exhibition at the SCAD museum. It was such an amazing event and really did an excellent job show casing some of his greatest accomplishments and moments. I am so glad I got the chance to go and view the exhibit on the opening night. Top names that came to honor Oscar include Anna Wintour, Annette de la Renta, and Andre Leon Talley.

Living Fashionably

Dior

Every girl dreams of living in a stylish apartment like Carrie Bradshaw. Though for many this remains a dream, for Nancy it is a reality. I had the opportunity to sit down with Nancy and find out her inspiration behind her decor and fashion and also add a few new places to shop to my list! Between the Hermes pillow, beautiful original art work, piles of fashion photography books, and the countless pairs of shoes, this home is one out of every girls dreams. I truly love this home and am already taking it as inspiration for my  NYC apartment I will be renting in the fall! Surrounding yourself with what you love is so important when trying to get motivated and inspired. Fashion doesn’t have to be restricted to what you wear, it can be a lifestyle.
